     I want to increase exercise.....

Hello.  I am new at all of this so here goes nothing.  I am in my 40's very overweight, have a bad knee and severe asthma.  I also suffer from depression.  I have never had a weight problem until I had my twins.  Since then I cant seem to do anything but gain weight.  I like to be outside but in the summer with the humidity it just about does me in.  So I feel stuck inside where I can breath.  This is so unhealthy for me but not sure what else to do.  I thought joining a gym would help but I hate going there by myself all the time.  In the summer the kids are home from school and not old enough to leave on their own yet which makes another glich...

I have a friend that I like to walk with but unfortunately she not always dependable.  I have a little dog that loves to walk with me so I still get out when I can.

I also have a husband who is not supportive at all.  He knows I'm trying to lose weight but he gives me candy for holidays and always wants to go to fast food resturants because he's to cheap to buy at a better resturant.  He is always bring candy, chips, ice cream etc. into the house.  I do have somewhat of control but on bad days I go for the chocolate.

This summer I will be going through two major surgeries and would like to get some of this weight off before then.  I have joined weight watchers and a gym to see if I can get some off.  Is there anyone out there that would help keep me accountalbe during this time?

    Hello,

If you're still looking for help I would be glad to help anyway I can.  I am new to this eat better life style.  I am hypoglycemic and my husband is a diabetic.  About 3 years ago I had lost a total of 55 lbs, the only problem was I did not do in a healthy way.

I went on to Netflix and they have a lot of exercise DVD's you can rent.  Yoga is supposed to be really good to help you learn to breath good and lose weight.  Anyone can do it.

First, you aren't going to like what I'm about to say.

In reading your post, I see that you blame an awful lot on others and not yourself.  Before you hit the back button and stop reading, please know that I did a lot of this too!

Finally, I just told myself that I wanted to lose weight and I wanted to do it for me.  I don't care if anyone supports me, and I stopped making excuses for not moving more.  Then, I read all I could on the internet and tried all kinds of little tricks from others that were struggling with weight.

One trick I did is the cleaning house thing.  I have three teenagers.  I stopped yelling at them to pick up after themselves.  I started picking up after them again.  I know that we should teach them independance and respect, but like I said, I was doing this for me and this was just one benefit there were going to get.  Not only did I start picking up after them, but I stopped stressing about the house because it was now my sole responsibility.  Then, I started cleaning.  Everyday when I get home, there are things out of order, things that need to be put away.  Fortunately, our home has stairs and all the bedrooms are upstairs.  So, I pick up Kimberly's book and walk upstairs to take it to her bookshelf.  Then, I walk back downstairs and get Austin's skateboard out of the den.  I take that skateboard and carry it upstairs to Austin's room.  Then, it is back downstairs to pick up Jessica's sweater off the couch.  I happily walk the sweater to Jessica's room and hang it in her closet.  See how this has helped.  I don't stress about the house, because I take responsibility to clean it up.........and I make cleaning and straigtening into real exercise.

After doing housework like this for a few weeks, I had more energy and started doing other things.  First, I would actually walk the dog around the block.  Then, I worked up to walk him around the block twice.  I mop the floors on my hands and knews to really get an arm workout, and I dust the hardwood floors at least twice a week by putting on special dusters (socks I attached to a dust mop head) and scooting and dancing across the hardwood with my feet!

Best thing is, I don't have to use the excuse that I don't like to workout alone......because honestly, I'd rather do these silly things alone anyway!
