     Senior citizen

I love the site and have enjoyed reading some of the posts.  Just wondering if there are any senior citizens out there who are trying to lose some weight.  Maybe we can buddy up.

     Re: Senior citizen

I too am a senior citizen and have lost about 40 pounds in the last few years and kept that off but need to loose about 10 more pounds and have been stuck forever.  I loose a pound or 2 and then it comes back.

The holidays started out great and then folks brought all the not so good for you foods.  I have been back in the snacking mode and am running scared for what that can and will cause.

My biggest problem is keeping my food journal.  It seems so time comsuming and I start out in the morning but by mid day I have neglected to write down what I eat.  Evenings are really hard.  I read, watch TV and want to munch or drink something constantly.

Any help out there would be appreciated.............jetsi

Hi, I signed up tonight and look forward to being a budy.  I know this comes back ten fold.  I have been eating a healthy diet for some years.  I have been on maintance on for the past four years.  My biggest problem as been motivation to get back into the exercise mode.  I have been very faithful until I semi-retired.  Now that I have more time, I have become "lazy".  My weight is fine, although I would like to take off 10 pounds to give me wiggle room.  I'm back to measuring my food.  I must say, I love Fiber One.  I just purchased the new flavor and I love it.  I eat this with plain non-fat yogurt most evenings.  Because of my schedule, I am able to eat my biggest meal at lunch time.  This seems to work well.  What I need is a walking buddy.  I also don't believe in making resolutions, however, I strongly believe in setting goals.  I will be happy to be a buddy to any and all.

Hi, I just joined today. I need to loose several pounds. I am trying to get into the 100 % whole grain foods. My biggest problem is that my granddaughter visits weekends and I try to have kid foods and snacks for her, but when she leaves, there it is in my kitchen and I end up eating it. Also, at 68, I am trying to exercise everyday, but am getting lazy. I need motivation!!!!

Yup, that old metabolism slows down.  I do find that mixing up the exercise helps.  I usually exercise 4-5 days out of 7 doing a low impact aerobics, kettlebells and weights.  Tough to get out of the door some days!  I too don't like to journal-I never seem to have time to write it down immediately and then I'm not accurate.  I'm a snacker when I cook, any tips?

    October Sky-

I considered myself to be middle aged at 57 years!  But I remember how busy I was at that age with kids in college, never knowing how many people would show up for holiday dinners, etc. I'm still trying to cut out the extras and figure out why I'm not losing with the amount of food I eat.  It doesn't help to have a husband who can eat 'anything' and still look good!

    Hang in there.

    Hi;

This is one of the first times I've gotten on this sight and I qualify as a senior.  I'm starting to get back into my walking again, I was a marathon walker, but last year I got really sick and had to quit.  It's taken me a while to get back in the swing, but I've started.  I do have to lose about another 60 lbs But I keep plugging along.

What are kettlebells?? I've never heard of them? I am also a snacker when I cook. A very hard habit to quit. Don't know..............maybe we could start chewing gum while we cook??

Crocheting is a great idea, I used to do a lot of it. Maybe I'll check out the new instruction books.

Hello. I'm a senior citizen also trying to lose weight. It has taken me a year to lose 43 pounds and I have 23 more to lose. It has been one of the hardest things I have ever had to do but I am determined to succeed. You can do it. It just takes a lot of patience. I am also Italian and love to cook.

Big Smile [:D]  Re: Senior citizen

    Hi October Sky-

A very appropriate screen name since I was born on Columbus Day.  Always kidded that I was lucky my mother didn't name me Columbia!  So did you get to do a little exercise today?  Every little bit helps.  I did get in my 30 min. of cardio today, it's tough to get it in every day.

     Re: Senior citizen

Kettlebells are also known as kettleballs - they are weights shaped like a softball with a handle on the top of them.  Guess the craze began in California and is just hitting the East coast.  I just started the class about three weeks ago-only 30 min. long but it is a workout.

Guess I'll stock up on gum on my next shopping trip and see if that helps.

    Thanks.
